UFP Quarantine Measures



Emergent situation quarantine falls under the Captain's prerogative, as stated below. However, it will eventually revert to one of the following classes of quarantine.

Routine trade, sociological, technological and military quarantine falls under the rubric of the Star Fleet Interdiction Command. The planet Platonia falls under all three categories, though there are special limits due to the establishment of an experimental colony on that world since 2322.

Epidemiological quarantine falls under the rubric of the UFP Centers for Disease Control, but are in effect controlled through the UFP Star Fleet Operations Branch, in terms of the initial management and treatment of victims. The current crisis at Eminiar Star System falls under this form of quarantine.

Special quarantines exist, with control by special task forces established by the UFP and under control of various arms of Star Fleet. Planets under such quarantine include Talos, Mentax, and the so-called Pleasure Planet, which fall under special commissions from Intelligence Operations, Psychological Warfare, and Star Fleet Science Division, respectively.

Under special circumstances, and commanding officer of Star Fleet may declare an interdiction or a quarantine for reasons as stated in the Standing Orders of the Star Fleet. Such an order must be investigated and approved by Star Fleet Command as soon as this is possible. After this is done, the quarantine may be lifted, or will revert from Captain's prerogative to another form of quarantine.

UFP Interdiction



A routine quarantine is also sometimes called an interdiction.

In general however, an interdiction prevents a class of congress, communication, or interaction between a species or world, or a set of world, and another species, world or set of worlds. An interdiction is a carefully planned action, as opposed to a total quarantine. For instance, the interdiction of Platonia is intended to have several specific results:

  1. Control access to a restricted chemical
  2. Ease the Sahndaran colonists into some form of long term association with the UFP, and to aid them in establishment of their privacy.
  3. Develop and test colonization on this planet, which, aside from a restricted substance, and the existence of 40 immortal sentient beings, is a very fine Class M world.

The Platonia interdiction prevents direct contact between Sahndarans and members of UFP who are not contact trained personnel, and restricts trade and intercourse with the new UFP colonists, in order to control the restricted substance found on the surface of the planet.

Interdictions may be established under Captain' prerogative, but must ultimately devolve, for short-term interdictions, to Star Fleet Operations, or to the Star Fleet Interdiction Command.
