Kyp watched the man go. He was pleased. He had found refuge for the long trip home. This Voyager that these people were looking for, it seemed like looking for a needle in a haystack. One ship in all the vastness of space. He had also heard rumors from vast the farthest reaches of their trades of advanced civilization living on the other side of the galaxy. Perhaps this Federation was one of those civilizations he had heard rumors about.
Anyway the doctor had completed her scans just as a security officer walked in. She released Kyp into his custody.
"Follow me sir." said the young ensign.
The two walked out of sickbay and headed for a turbolift.
Upon entering the ensign said, "Deck 8."
"So you have voice activation devices, too." Said Kyp.
"Yes sir." The ensign could tell that this was going to be a long day if he had to familiarize the guest with their technology.
The turbolift doors opened and the two walked down the hall to the room assigned to him. The doors opened and the two young men walked in.
"Sir, over here on the wall is a food replicator. You simply tell it what you desire and it produces it. The one flaw is that the item must be in the memory. I'm sure someone will eventually help you program some of your planet's dishes. In the mean time just ask the computer to identify it on your console."
"And that would be?"
"Over there sir. On the desk. Within the next few days, your request of Stellar Cartography will be uploaded."
"What about your library. I need to learn about your culture if I am to help you along."
"The library is already installed. Some information is still restricted but I'm sure you will find what ever you need."
"How am I to contact anybody?"
Handing him a commbadge. "Here take this. Just put it on the upper left part of your chest. When ever you need to contact someone, just tap it and say your name, the word to, and the person you want to speak to. When you wish to end communications just say over. I have to get back to duty, but the computer is voice activated and can help you along further."
"Thank you very much for your hospitality."
"Your welcome." The ensign turns and walks out of the door.
Kyp turned and looked at his room. It was quite large. Maybe it was because of his rank. Ambassador. Not much to do on the ship but inform the captain of certain cultures and the like.
"Computer, time remaining until the funeral?"
"Two hours fifty four minutes twenty three seconds."
"Computer alert me when there is only fifteen minutes left. Also, is there a portable computer device to which I could as a map to get there."
"A PADD in the top drawer of the desk."
Kyp opened the drawer and saw a flat gray piece of equipment. "Computer, download shortest route from this room to funeral services onto this...this...PADD."
In a few seconds the display lit up and Kyp was looking at a map.
"I think I'm going to like it here."
