USS Grail: "They Were Expendable", "Silent Pain, Part III""Silent Pain, Part III" by Arda Kaje SD 49712.19
Arda slowly walked towards the holodeck, having asked the computer where she could find Epic. The intensity of the feelings had shocked her, especially since he was rumored to be an emotional vampire. Well, she had no reason to hate the man. He had treated Kaede and her like queens upon their arrival. Was it Kaede? She sighed. It was a side of Epic she may never know.
She entered the holodeck cautiously, its yellow and black grid accosting her. She never understood the colors chosen, but it wasn't her choice and it wasn't the issue at hand. She looked at Epic, a violin having fallen to the floor near a chair. He looked back at her, seemingly calmed. She asked if he was alright.
"I am now that you're here," came his cryptic response. He opened his arms for an embrace, showing warmth and self-concern, reflecting Arda's own feelings. She was surprised by the gesture, but accepted and returned the hug.
"Kaede was so worried and upset."
"I know. I'm sorry." He moved back from her. "Things happen," he said, detached from the rage of only moments ago. Arda mentally shook her head. Detached. So soon? Some people could do that. She was still a bit shaken from the experience. "Is she alright?" asked Epic.
"She's calm now, if that's what you're asking." He merely nodded. Arda continued, "She's in the nursery in Sickbay, if you'd care to see her." He paused, about to say something. "It might help."
"You'd let me see her after rage that strong?"
"I trust you, Epic Terrakian. Some may not, but I do."
Epic seemed puzzled. Saying she trusted him was probably the biggest compliment she could give. Arda didn't trust many, but now he was among those few.
"Thank you," he said. "Thank you."
